A review of gold extraction using noncyanide lixiviants

Alkaline sulfur-containing lixiviants, including thiosulfate, polysulfides, and alkaline sulfide solutions, stand out as a promising class of alternatives to cyanide because of their low toxicity, high efficiency, and strong adaptability. In this paper, we summarized the research progress and remaining challenges in gold extraction using these noncyanide reagents.

The cyanidation process is still the dominant technique for gold ore treatment. In this study, the potential use of the guanidine extractant LIX 7950 for recovering silver and gold from alkaline cyanide solution was investigated. The results indicate that LIX 7950 can effectively and efficiently extract silver and gold from their cyanide solution.

A technique for extracting gold values from an aqueous system containing gold cyanide anions by contact with a strong solvating extractant under basic conditions is disclosed. Useful extractants include organic phosphorus oxides and sulfur oxides.
